Things to do

It is a convenient resort from where the ancient temple-towns of Ranakpur, Nathdwara and Nagda can be explored.

Kumbhalgarh Fort: Near Udaipur, Kumbhalgarh fort is the second most important fort after Chittourgarh fort in the Mewar Region. Built by Rana Kumbha, the fort is well nestled amidst the Aravalli Ranges. The fort also offers an excellent spot for bird watching in Kumbhalgarh. This fort with 36 km thick wall was renovated in the 19th century. The Kumbhalgarh Fort is also important in being the birthplace of Maharana Pratap and also houses an inner small fort Kartargarh made by Maharaja Fateh Singh.

Kumbhalgarh Wildlife Sanctuary: Kumbhalgarh is a known for its two important tourist destinations - Kumbhalgarh Fort and Kumbhalgarh Wildlife Sanctuary. Located on the Udaipur - Pali - Jodhpur road, the wildlife sanctuary adjoins the historical Kumbalgarh Fort. Amidst the verdant green stretches on the outskirts of Udaipur, Kumbalgarh is the only wildlife sanctuary of Rajasthan, where wolf is found abundantly. The Joba area of the sanctuary has more than forty wolves that is the highest wolf population in India found in a wildlife sanctuary.

Ranakpur Temples: Ranakpur in Rajasthan is one of the five most important Jain pilgrimage tourist destinations. Ranakpur is named after the great Rajput warrior Rana Kumbha of Rajasthan. The Ranakpur Temples nestled well in the Aravalli ranges were constructed in 1439 AD. Made of amber stone, the Ranakpur temples in the Pali district near Udaipur date back to the 15th century. The main temple is a Chaumukh or a four-faced temple dedicated to Adinath. There are 24 pillared halls, 4 subsidiary shrines and domes supported by more than 400 columns. Within the same complex, there are three other temples including a temple of the Sun God.

Ekling: A priest is still employed by the present Maharana to care for the shrines of his ancestors. And twice a day the Pandit's family makes the stiff uphill climb to the castle to light the sacred lamps before vermilion-daubed images of Hanuman, Chamunda, and Ekling.

Horse Safari: Horse lovers and adventure seekers can enjoy the thrill of riding and camping in the Reserve Forest around Kumbhalgarh. Each group is accompanied by experienced sawars. Horses, tents, food and fodder are provided by the Aohdin on prior notice at a very reasonable cost compared to a hacking holiday in Europe or America.

Kumbhalgarh Wildlife Sanctuary: A hazardous, barely jeepable track takes you to the 586 square kilometer Kumbhalgarh Wildlife Sanctuary. The main attraction here would be panther, sloth bear, wild boar, four-horned antelope or crocodiles, "scientifically bred" in the lake.

The Crocodile Farm: The Crocodile Farm has a guesthouse belonging to the Forest Department and overnight stays are possible. Good forest cover, jungle berries, fruits and nuts, water grasses, algae, and fish provide sustenance for thousands of flamingoes, sarus cranes, spoonbills, painted storks, cormorants, purple heron, egrets, duck, and rosy pelican in winter. One also finds plenty of chakor partridge, crow pheasants, jungle warblers, golden orioles, gray jungle fowl, and the usual peacocks; parrots, pigeons, and doves.

Hill Top: Facing The Aodhi is the rugged Hill Top, a breath-taking venue for special lunches and dinners for groups between 20 to 75 guests. The steep walk up to the Hill Top marks the beginning of an exciting dining experience.

Visitors could even choose to mingle with people of the local tribes - Bhil & Garasia, to observe their rituals and enjoy their musical traditions.
