Amar Mahal, Orchha

Orcha is situated in Madhya Pradesh on the banks of river Betwa. Used to be the capital of the region (Bundelkhand) but now is small village. The palaces there are of impressive size and there are pleasant views of the countryside from their upper levels. 'Amar Mahal Hotel is built in royal 'Bundelkhand style architecture.  Most suitably connected by roads to all major destinations as seen from the map below is ready to welcome guests, from the 15th of July 2003.

Things to do

Orchha is known for the Temples and Cenotaphs which have intricate carvings dating back to 16th and 17th Century.

Ram Raja Temple: Ram Raja Temple is the palace of Raja Madhukar Shah where the icon of Lord Ram was brought from Ayodhya

Laxmi Narayan Temple: The wall paintings in the Lakshmi Narayan Temple depict scenes from the epics.

Chhatris (Cenotaphs) to Orchhas rulers are down by the Betwa River.

The Fort of Orchha has 3 Palaces - the Jahangir Mahal, Raj Mandir and Sheesh Mahal and also the Haveli and Garden of Rai Praveen.

Jahangir Mahal: Jahangir Mahal is an impressive Palace with a small archaeological museum on the ground floor.

Phool Bagh: The Phool Bagh has a Baradari in honour of Diwan Hardaul

Orchha Wildlife Sanctuary  
The Orchha Sanctuary is roughly 25 km long and 15 km wide. The original forest was covered with Dhawa and Kardhai trees. This forest still has Wild Boar, Langur, Blue Bull (Nilgai), Sloth Bear and over 200 species of birds.
The banks of the Jamni and Betwa rivers are developing trails in the Sanctuary for walking/driving in the interior and. A morning’s walk can yield 200 bird species in this forest/river ecosystem.
